WTT April 2018 Outing
West Tennessee Travelers kicked off their 2018 camping season at Lock A near Ashland City, TN. Five units arrived Sunday and the sixth arrived on Monday. We were anticipating a warm welcome to spring but Mother Nature had a different idea. Monday dawned with frost and near freezing temperatures. It gradually warmed up and we finished the campout with beautiful warm weather. We welcomed Allen & Barbara Wells to their first campout with us in their Winnebago Tow camper.
After soaking up the sparse warmth but generous sunshine Monday, we caravanned to the nearby Pioneer Diner for delicious dinner. Tuesday dawned as we had hoped- Sunny and temperatures in the mid 70’s. We spent the day playing games, hiking and generally enjoying the weather. Mark grilled chicken for our potluck. We did have to argue with the local critters for a while, but after sharing some food, we enjoyed their company.
Wednesday was another beautiful day to enjoy the scenery, watching the barges approach the Lock and another cookout with sliders, rollers and good company.
Thursday we packed up and headed south to the Volunteer State Winnies (VSW) gathering at I-24 campground. We were joined by our 3 newest members. We welcomed Joe & Elizabeth Dyer, Jim & Rose Paschal and Bob & Bobbie Graf. Thursday afternoon was arrival and setup. Thursday evening was potluck dinner at the shelter followed by games and fellowship.
After a continental breakfast on Friday morning, most of us visited the nearby Stands River National Battlefield & National Cemetery. It was eye opening to say the least. The evening entertainment was Matt’s Family Jam. The music was lively and entertaining and soon had folks up and dancing the evening away.
Saturday morning was VSW and chapter business meetings with particular attention spent discussing the upcoming GNR. The evening meal was delicious BBQ, applesauce and desert served by VSW officers. The rest of the evening was spent showing off our skills at card games and Mexican train
Sunday was on the road again for most of us. Looking forward to next campout.

Lock "A" Ashland City, TN This place is so amazing that we almost do not want to tell you about it so it stays the hidden gem. The campsites backing up to the river are huge, tree shaded, well spaced with concrete pads, fire rings and heavy duty picnic tables. |
